The CE Llerona, a reference in women’s football in the region

The sports entity is one of the Catalan clubs that works best with women’s football, with up to 14 teams and more than 150 players.

The Club Esportiu Llerona is a football club founded in 1959 by a group of football enthusiasts from the municipality. In the early sixties, with the help of the parish of Llerona, it was able to build a playing field with the regulatory dimensions to carry out its activities. It was not until 1964 that the club officially registered with the Catalan Football Federation. Since then, CE Llerona has not stopped growing. Its work in men’s football has been the club’s hallmark, and its growth has led it to consolidate itself in this sport at the regional and Catalan levels. A consolidation that has also led it to invest in women’s football, where it has excelled as one of the best clubs in Catalonia.

The women’s football section of CE was born more than a decade ago and currently almost equals the number of male teams. Currently, the Club has 14 women’s teams, with more than 150 players and a good number of coaches and assistants, 19 men’s teams, in addition to a men’s veterans team.

A work that begins with the youth teams, with the youngest players of the club, the pre-benjamin team, with players between 6 and 7 years old. The CE Llerona youth teams have all the lines from pre-benjamins to the first team, with a pre-benjamin team, 3 benjamins, 3 alevins, 2 infantils, one F11 cadet, and 3 juvenils teams. In addition, the club’s school team is a mixed team where girls under 6 also play. All of them compete in one of the official competitions of the Catalan Football Federation and have their sights set on the first team.

A first team that competes in the Preferent category, the highest category of Catalan women’s football. A team led by Joan Garcia Galceran, which currently occupies the lower part of the Preferent table, far from relegation but also far from the top positions in the standings. The team is undoubtedly the reflection of the work done at the club from the grassroots level and an example to follow for the youngest players in the club, who dream of reaching it someday. In fact, 12 of the 17 players on the first team are players who have been trained at the club.

A women’s section coordinated by Pep Montasell and Joan Garcia, which is undoubtedly one of the various sources of pride of CE Llerona.
