The European Sports Village 2024 brings together historic sports officials from the municipality.

The meeting has allowed first-hand knowledge of the work carried out during the year on the occasion of the European Sports Village 2024.

The Sports Zone of Corró d’Avall has been the meeting point for the councilors and the councilor of Sports of Les Franqueses del Vallès who have been part of the local government since the arrival of democracy in the City Council.

Since the first elections, the position has been held by a total of 10 people who, as explained by the current Sports councilor, Carlos Munzón, ‘are an important part of this 2024. If we are the European Sports Village, it is not only for what we have done in 2023 but for the work that has been done over the years in the world of sports in Les Franqueses del Vallès.

Although not everyone could attend the meeting, it was attended by Josep Maria Dia, Josep Randos, José Ramírez, Jordi Ganduxé, Juan Antonio Corchado, Montse Vila, and Carlos Munzón, who shared memories of their time as sports representatives of the municipality. The meeting began on the floor of the sports pavilion where they could have their first contact. From there, the group headed to the municipal football field, not without first stopping in front of the commemorative mural of Les Franqueses European Sports Village 2024. At this point, Carlos Munzón explained the work done by the artist Marc None to immortalize all the sports entities of the municipality and capture the spirit of this emblematic year. Then, at the Municipal Football Field of Corró d’Avall, they explained how the events and communication of Les Franqueses, European Sports Village 2024, are being worked on.

For Carlos Munzón, ‘the main objective of the meeting has been to make an act of brotherhood and to be able to show the historic councilors and councilor of Sports of Les Franqueses del Vallès all the work that is being done from sports during this year 2024 and to take stock of the work done over the years.

In this sense, Josep Maria Dia, who was Sports councilor for 8 years, recalled that his was ‘a very good stage because we laid the first stone of the swimming pool and put grass on the football field. I am glad to see the good evolution that sports have had in Les Franqueses del Vallès.

Josep Randos, who was in charge of the Sports council for one year, takes away ‘very good experiences and very good memories. With the event we have today, I have realized the good work that has been done during all these years in sports in Les Franqueses del Vallès and the demonstration is this distinction as European Sports Village.

José Ramírez, who was Sports councilor from 2011 to 2015, goes a step further and considers that this is the ‘council that I liked the most to lead, especially to see the little ones enjoying sports or the effort of accompaniment and support that parents and grandparents make every day. I stick with that.

On his part, Jordi Ganduxé, who was in charge of the Sports council for one year, considers that this ‘is a very grateful council. You can meet many people, many athletes, many entities, and you can work a lot and well, and I think the councilors who have been there can be happy.

The current mayor of Les Franqueses del Vallès, Juan Antonio Corchado, who was Sports councilor from 2016 to 2019, considers it important for him ‘to be able to meet all the work team of the Municipal Sports Board, which is an excellent team of people and professionals, but above all to be able to meet all the sports entities of the municipality that do commendable work.

Also, Montse Vila, who was Sports councilor from 2019 to 2023, values above all the treatment with the people she met ‘which has been a lot and the relationship has always been very nice. Even today I continue to have it. I also value very much all the actions we have been able to carry out. Although there was the pandemic, we were able to do the cycling circuit, extend the archery field, or change the grass of Llerona. We also feel especially proud to have started the path of the European Sports Village.

The event ended with a breakfast and a souvenir photo with the entire Municipal Sports Board of Les Franqueses del Vallès.
