The competition, which will take place on May 25th and is organized by CB Les Franqueses, will be the Joan Hernández Gómez Memorial.
Les Franqueses del Vallès will be one of the new venues for the 7th 3X3 Circuit of the Catalan Basketball Federation, which is expected to have around a hundred teams participating. This is the first time the municipality hosts a test of the Catalan 3X3 circuit. The Les Franqueses Basketball Club will be the host team for the competition and will handle the organization of the tournament, together with the technicians of the Catalan Basketball Federation, and about twenty volunteers from the Club. This event is part of the celebrations of Les Franqueses, European City of Sport 2024.
At the presentation of the competition, which took place in the multipurpose room of the Can Prat Space, the mayor of Les Franqueses del Vallès, Juan Antonio Corchado Ponce, the Sports Councilor, Carlos Munzón Cruz, the president of the Les Franqueses Basketball Club, Ángeles Carrasco Sola, and the head of the 3X3 Circuit of the Catalan Basketball Federation, Jaume Comas Font, were present.
Sports Councilor Carlos Munzón welcomed the attendees, reminding them that “this is the first time we have this circuit in Les Franqueses. And what better year to debut than this 2024, when we are the European City of Sport.” The councilor wanted to thank the Les Franqueses Basketball Club for joining in the organizational tasks. “From the very beginning, they were the first to take the lead and have taken on this event with great enthusiasm and willingness to make this day a success in the municipality.“
The president of the Les Franqueses Basketball Club, Ángeles Carrasco, thanked the councilor for his words and emotionally remembered Joan Hernández Gómez, who gives his name to the 3X3 Tournament that the club has organized for the past four years and which in 2024 will be part of the 3X3 Circuit of the Catalan Basketball Federation. “We started organizing it in memory of a great person who meant a lot to our club. He taught us great values as a person. He believed in this sport and thought that everyone, regardless of their abilities, could practice it. That is why this year, being able to do it within the federation circuit and as a European City of Sport, is especially exciting and will make his memory resonate even more.“
For his part, Jaume Comas, head of the 3X3 Circuit of the Catalan Basketball Federation, thanked the municipality and its representatives for hosting one of the 10 annual events of this competition, celebrating that “many things come together this year on this date and in this town. And that can only be a success.” Comas explained that “the circuit grows every year, and we will be touring Catalonia with this competition for the next three months. We are now in the registration process and taking actions to encourage people to sign up. In recent years, we have averaged between 90 and 110 teams per venue.“
Finally, the mayor of Les Franqueses del Vallès, Juan Antonio Corchado, closed the speeches by thanking the Catalan Basketball Federation for trusting the municipality but especially for trusting the Les Franqueses Basketball Club. “Without a doubt, it will be a success. But it will be a success mainly because of our club, which is a committed club, with strong organization, great dedication, extensive experience, and a great desire to engage the community. And that makes the difference.“
The 7th edition of the 3×3 FCBQ Circuit will take place from May 18th to July 27th, 2024, throughout Catalonia. For the 2023-24 season, the event will be held in a total of 10 venues. Les Franqueses will host the second event of the Circuit, which will be held all day on Saturday, May 25th, at the pavilion and the sports court of the Municipal Sports Area of Corró d’Avall.
