The current champions of Catalonia prevailed in Sector F, which took place from Thursday, May 23, to Sunday, May 26, at the Municipal Sports Pavilion of Corró d’Avall and the Tagamanent Pavilion in Canovelles.
The cadet women’s team of the Handball Sports Association Les Franqueses will not easily forget the sector of the Spanish Championship held from Thursday, May 23, to Sunday, May 26, at the Municipal Sports Pavilion of Corró d’Avall and the Tagamanent Pavilion in Canovelles. The players from Les Franqueses defeated the three rivals they faced, thus securing their qualification for the Final Phase of the Spanish Championship.
The players, coached by Xavier Canalejas, were very strong throughout the sector and made their intentions clear from the first day. Les Franqueses opened the sector against the most accessible opponent, Transportes Royo Calasancio, whom they comfortably defeated 41-13. The second match was more complicated, played at the Tagamanent Pavilion in Canovelles due to the overlap with the 3X3 Circuit of the Catalan Basketball Federation at the Corró d’Avall Pavilion. In Canovelles, AEH Les Franqueses trailed BM Hiessur Lauro almost from the initial whistle and reached the final stage of the match with a minimal one-goal disadvantage. This situation led to a frenetic finish, where the victory was secured after a good defense and a goal that earned the chance to play the decisive match the next day. The 28-27 victory unleashed euphoria among the multitude of supporters who accompanied the team to Canovelles. This victory opened the doors to the decisive match against Madrid Base Villaverde, this time at the Municipal Sports Pavilion of Corró d’Avall. The players from Canalejas dominated the match and displayed their best handball again to secure a 27-20 victory, classifying Les Franqueses among the top 8 teams in the Spanish Cadet Women’s Championship.
The Final Phase will be played between June 5 and 9 in Tarazona, and AEH Les Franqueses has been placed in Group 2, which also includes A.D. Prado Marianistas, Aula Valladolid Bar Skua, and Restaurante Las Torres BM Jota. The other group will include Helvetia Anaitasuna, Balonmano Leganés, Grupo USA H. Mislata UPV, and Kukullaga Etxebarri.
