Anastasia Zakharova Wins the XIII ITF 100K Tournament in Les Franqueses, Awarded European Sports Town Prize

Rain forced the suspension of the second semifinal on Saturday but gave way on Sunday for the finals.

Russian player Anastasia Zakharova needed just an hour to defeat her compatriot Alina Charaeva in the final of the thirteenth ITF 100K tournament in Les Franqueses, awarded the European Sports Town Prize. Zakharova beat Charaeva 3–6, 1–6, dominating from the start and breaking her opponent’s serve early in the first set. It was a final with little drama, which Zakharova resolved quickly. The Russian showcased a high level of play that delighted the large crowd that filled the stands of the Gorchs Tennis Club for the final day of the tournament.

Charaeva’s only consolation was that she had played the semifinal early in the morning, which she couldn’t play on Saturday due to rain, forcing her to play two matches in just a few hours. This wasn’t Charaeva’s only effort, as just a couple of hours later, she played and won the doubles final partnering with Reyngold, defeating the Germans Hodzic and Werner. The final day once again demonstrated the caliber of this ITF 100K tournament in Les Franqueses.

It’s a promotion of Catalan tennis, particularly women’s tennis, which year after year is gaining more followers and has turned the Les Franqueses tournament into the best women’s ITF fast court tournament in Spain.
