The second seed of the tournament defeated Catalan player Adrià Soriano in just under two hours and in three sets (6-4/3-6/1-6).
This Sunday, the final of the ITF 15k Les Franqueses del Vallès Tournament took place on the central court of Club de Tennis els Gorchs. A final that pitted British player Giles Hussey, seeded number 2 in the tournament, against Catalan player of Colombian origin, Adrià Soriano, and in which the British player emerged victorious with a score of 6-4, 3-6, and 1-6. Hussey defeated Soriano in just under two hours after coming back from a set down.
Giles Hussey reached the final after eliminating one of the top favorites for victory, Georgian player Nikoloz Basilashvili, in the semifinals. Basilashvili, who once ranked as high as number 16 in the ATP rankings, was considered one of the main contenders for victory in Les Franqueses del Vallès. However, Hussey demonstrated being in great form and did not drop a set throughout the tournament, except for the one he conceded in the final against Soriano.
On the other hand, Adrià Soriano, who competed at Club de Tennis els Gorchs under the flag of Colombia, also showed great resilience throughout the week. Like his opponent in the final, he did not drop a set during the entire competition, except for the two sets he lost against Hussey in the final. Additionally, Soriano entered the final with a bit more rest than the British player as his opponent in the quarterfinals had to withdraw due to physical problems.
Nikolas Sánchez, the top seed of the tournament, never felt comfortable throughout this ITF 15k and faced difficulties in overcoming his opponents from the first round. In fact, Sánchez was on the brink of defeat in the second round against Dutch player Ronetto Van Tilburg in a match that lasted over four hours and left the Catalan tennis player drained. This physical and mental exhaustion led Sánchez to retire from the quarterfinal match against Adrià Soriano.
It has also been a weekend where the doubles final took place, with victory going to the pair formed by Ukrainian player Georgii Kravchenko and Bulgarian player Nikolay Nedelchev, who defeated the pair formed by British player Stefan Cooper and Dutch player Ronetto Van Tilburg with a score of 6-3 and 6-2.
Both the singles and doubles finals attracted a large number of fans to Club de Tennis els Gorchs, marking a successful conclusion to the ITF 15k event hosted this year in Les Franqueses, European Town of Sports 2024.
