A member of the inclusive expedition from the CIM Project la Garriga carried the flag of Les Franqueses, European Town of Sport 2024, to Everest Base Camp.
This past November, an expedition of 30 people with diverse abilities, all members of the inclusive mountain club CIM Project la Garriga, reached Everest Base Camp. The project aimed to ascend to an altitude of 5,365 meters in an inclusive manner, involving participants with fibromyalgia, autism, and one person with reduced mobility. Participants came from La Garriga, Granollers, and Les Franqueses del Vallès.
The adventure culminated on November 12, when the group reached Everest Base Camp after 12 days of trekking through the Himalayas. This achievement made CIM Project la Garriga the first inclusive expedition in the world to reach the camp in such a manner. Albert Cogul also became the first paraplegic individual from Spain and Europe to achieve this milestone.
The expedition departed from the small town of Lukla, located at nearly 3,000 meters above sea level, on Monday, November 4. They covered approximately 150 kilometers through the heart of Sagarmatha National Park to reach their goal. It was an intense journey that showcased the power of inclusion, empathy, and teamwork, marking the culmination of over two years of preparation.
