The presentation event of Mitja 2024 has featured the presence of athlete Mouad Mounim, from Les Franqueses del Vallès, and the Sports Councilor, Carlos Munzón.
This Wednesday, the 38th edition of the Mitja Marató Granollers – Les Franqueses – La Garriga was presented at the headquarters of KH7 Lloreda in Canovelles. An event that will take place this Sunday, February 25th, starting at a quarter to eleven in the morning, and more than 6,000 athletes from around the world will participate.
Precisely, the participation of elite athletes is one of the characteristic attractions of this Vallès Half Marathon. In the men’s category, the noteworthy African representation includes up to four Kenyan athletes: Gilbert Kibet, Wesley Kimutai, Alfred Cheruioy, and Elijah Kibet, and a representative from Ethiopia, Demoz Bekele. Also, well-known athletes in this race, such as Mohamed El Ghazouany, second in the Taste of the Mitja 2023, or Catalan athletes Xavi Tomasa and Carles Montllor, will take part. In the men’s category, it is not expected that the record set last year by Hagos Gebrehivet will be lowered, an impressive time of 58 minutes and 55 seconds. It is in the women’s category where the record is expected to fall, although it was set last year by Tigist Gesahegne, obtaining a time of 1 hour 6 minutes and 40 seconds. The Ethiopians Tesgest Ayalew, Alemaz Samuel, Asmarech Naga, or Hiwot Mehari will be the ones to fight for the record.
The presentation on Wednesday morning had the presence of two Vallès athletes who will participate in this 38th edition. Artur Bossy from Cànoves and Mourad Mounim from Les Franqueses del Vallès will be the Vallès representatives at Mitja 2024. Both highlighted the excitement of running the home race and meeting friends and family along the entire route who encourage them from start to finish.
The event also had the presence of the mayor of Granollers, Alba Barnusell, the mayor of La Garriga, Meritxell Budó, the sports councilor of Les Franqueses del Vallès, Carlos Munzón, the president of the Vallès Oriental Regional Council, Emilio Cordero, and the representative of the Barcelona Provincial Council, Abel García. All of them wanted to emphasize the ability of La Mitja to unite the territory in common projects and the importance that the event has gained, becoming an essential annual appointment for thousands of people.
La Mitja goes beyond the Sunday race and will be experienced with intensity throughout the weekend. On Saturday with the Mini Marathon, with more than a thousand girls and boys registered, as well as the giant race or the various races on Sunday, such as the 10 km or the Quart de la Mitja. The latter, this year, will involve the participation of more than 200 high school students from up to 15 different institutes.
