The Gran Premi KH7 junior. Les Franqueses, European Village of Sport 2024, will feature the participation of up to 175 cyclists from 25 different teams.
Today, a new edition of the Gran Premi KH7 junior was officially presented in the council chamber of Les Franqueses. Les Franqueses, European Village of Sport 2024, will host the event on the upcoming Sunday, March 3, on a 110-kilometer circuit, and this year, it is registered in the UCI international calendar. In fact, it is one of the three unique races in the Spanish state that awards UCI points.
A race that inaugurates the calendar and has managed to attract teams and selections from around the world. In Les Franqueses del Vallès, we will see the participation of the Kazakhstan team, the Guinea Bissau team, a Belgian team, or two French teams, as well as teams from Catalonia and the rest of the Spanish state. Participation will reach up to 175 cyclists distributed among 25 teams of 7 cyclists each. A prestigious lineup that will include an Olympic medalist, Abraham Olano, who currently directs the Guipúzcoa team and will compete in Les Franqueses del Vallès this Sunday, March 3.
Toni Serra, president of the Unió Ciclista Les Franqueses, has commented on the effort involved in organizing an event within the international calendar on the occasion of Les Franqueses, European Village of Sport 2024. “An effort has been made, primarily financially, to achieve UCI status because we wanted it to be a race with a good lineup, as it is part of the events of the European Village of Sport.” In this sense, the sports councilor, Carlos Munzón, has positively valued the international participation in the race. “This race has a high level because, in the end, it is an international event. Teams from Kazakhstan, Guinea Bissau, France, Belgium, and the rest of the Spanish state are coming, and this will make for a great spectacle on the streets of Les Franqueses.” Toni Serra has also appreciated being the first race of the calendar this year and its connection with the high participation of 2024. “This year, being the first race of the calendar, we have all the good riders from here and abroad. And I think, in terms of participation, being the first race of the calendar and also a UCI event has benefited us.”
At this afternoon’s event, the mayor of Les Franqueses del Vallès, Juan Antonio Corchado, and the territorial delegate of Barcelona of the Catalan Cycling Federation, Ricardo Villar, have also been present. Villar wanted to emphasize the exceptional nature of this event in Les Franqueses. “From the Catalan Cycling Federation, we value very positively the organization of this event by the Unió Ciclista Les Franqueses. To say that, in the Catalan calendar, there is only one international competition, which is this one in Les Franqueses. Therefore, the assessment cannot be more than positive.”
Gran Premi KH7 junior. Les Franqueses, European Village of Sport 2024, will repeat the circuit of last year’s edition, although initially, the Council had communicated a traffic cut due to works in Corró d’Amunt that forced the organization to change and reduce the route. In the end, thanks to the work of the Unió Ciclista Les Franqueses, hand in hand with the City Council, the circuit can be maintained with a slight variation that will take them through Can Suquet.
